French Toast Recipe
This easy and delicious french toast recipe turns regular sandwich bread into a special breakfast treat!
Yield: 10 pieces of french toast
Ingredients
- 10 slices of sandwich bread
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 Tablespoons light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- butter for cooking
- optional toppings: powdered sugar, butter, and syrup
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Place slices of bread on a baking sheet and bake in preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, flipping once halfway through. Remove when bread is lighly toasted (but not browned) and feels slightly stiff to the touch.
- To a large shallow bowl, add eggs, milk, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Whisk together until ingredients are well combined and sugars have dissolved.
- Melt 2 Tablespoons butter in a large, non-stick pan over medium heat. Spread butter evenly across pan, then reduce heat to medium-low.
- Dip slices of bread into egg mixture, one at a time. Dip the first side for a few seconds then flip and dip the other side for a few seconds, just to coat bread. Let the excess mixture drain off, then place bread in hot pan. You can cook several pieces at the same time, just leave room in the pan to flip the bread. Cook for 3-4 minutes, until golden brown.
- Flip and cook the other side for 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Remove from pan and place on a plate. Continue the process with the remaining bread, adding a little more butter to the pan (about a teaspoon) before cooking each batch.
- Serve french toast warm with butter, powdered sugar, and syrup if desired.
